As Told By the founder

40 Years and Counting

It all started with Orvil Phillips (my grandfather). During the late 40's into the early 50's he had a small shop called “Philips Garage” in our family home town of Webbers Falls, Oklahoma. My dad grew up going to the shop after school and working for granddad. Things were tough in the little town and he eventually closed down and moved here to California near his older brother and younger sister. He spent the rest of his working life as a mechanic until his retirement. In his spare time he restored cars and sold Ford Model “A” parts at swap meets (his love was the Model “A”).


In 1976, George Phillips (my dad) opened our doors under the name of “Tradeway Transmissions”. I, also like my dad grew up working in the shop after school and through the summers. Obviously our main area of specialty was in transmission repairs and rebuilding and I learned a lot through those years.


In 1986, dad purchased the Chevron station near the corner of Yosemite Avenue and Union Road here in Manteca and placed me as the station's general manager. This station had 3 service bays and two technicians performing a wide array of general automotive services. After a few years of operating the two businesses separately, we eventually consolidated our entire repair operations into our one shop here at 1003 Moffat Blvd and changed our name to Phillips Auto Care to reflect our complete automotive service.

We open at 8:00 am & close at 5:00 pm allowing you to drop off early and pick-up late.

Towing Available

Sunshine Auto Care contracts with local towing companies for roadside assistance. If you need a tow, just call us and we will handle the details.

Eventually dad retired and I became the general manager and then owner of Phillips Auto Care taking care to continue his commitment to excellence and high standards of honesty and integrity. I've always been proud of my “automotive heritage” growing up in a family of gear heads. I guess that's why I'm still here, 40 years and still counting.

Priority Service

Our “turnaround time” on most repairs is remarkably fast. When scheduled by appointment, most repairs can be completed on the same day, minor services such as oil changes can be performed while you wait.

Shuttle Service

Sunshine Auto Care provides shuttle service from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday to Manteca, Ripon, and other surrounding areas.

Thorough Analysis, Honesty, and Friendliness. Phillips Auto Care was very professional in their performance for my vehicle. Mitch rode with me as soon as I got there to hear the sound I wanted looked at. He heard it and described it to me. They gave me an estimate after they found the problem, and also took care of the regular maintenance I was there for. I asked about windshield wipers and the cost compared to buying them myself, and he was very honest about price comparisons. So I had them also replace my wipers. They also gave me a print out of things they found that would need to be taken care of with prices for each item. I was very pleased and comfortable with Phillips Auto Care service. I would recommend them to other people for their great work, thorough analysis, honesty, and their friendliness!

30 Years of Trust. Finally got my truck to Phillip’s for an analysis (Engine check light was on.) It had been running (actually idling) rough for weeks. The guys figured it out quickly, made the repair, and returned the truck running smooth and with more spunk. Speedy Minivan Repairs. Having just moved my family from Nashville, TN, to Manteca, CA my family minivan wouldn’t start. Our roadside assistance agreed to tow my vehicle to a auto repair, from a list of four I chose Phillip’s. I called them to let them know my vehicle was on the way. Though being fully booked; I was told it would be checked out as soon as the could get to it. In the morning, I had a call my van was repaired and is ready to pick up. Glad to have made the choice of Phillips Auto Care.

Excellent Service Without Being Rushed. Phillips Auto Care has worked on my cars for years. From the simple oil change to replacing a engine, their service is excellent. They never make you fell rushed, take time to listen and keep you informed of the progress. Some people suggest they may be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Always satisfied.

Catalytic Converter Repair. I had a very good experience and will definitely recommend you to friends and family. The catalytic converters on my truck was the problem just like your mechanic said. Friendly and Helpful. I found this auto service on yelp and there wasn’t any bad reviews. So on that I tried Phillips Auto Care back in June of 2014 and I haven’t one bad thing to say about them. In fact when I’m planning a long drive I drop by tosketch sure I’m ok on this long drive . They are courtesy friendly and helpful. Ladies they are to be trusted.
